Split Shaft PTO is used in cases where transmission PTOs are not capable of providing the required power for the superstructure. The Power Split PTO is located on the truck chassis between the main transmission and differential. These gearboxes are mainly used for Fire Fighting Trucks, Cleaning Combination Trucks, Sweeping Trucks, Vacuum Excavators, and Road Maintenance Trucks.
Depending on a given truck, Split Shaft PTOs can vary greatly. Split Shaft Units can be vertical or horizontal types. If it is vertical, it can have 3 stages such as KMS.2002, 4 stages such as KMS.2006, or 5 stages such as KMS.2005. Usually, Fire Fighting Trucks and Water Trucks prefer to use a Vertical Transfer Case so a Centrifugal Pump can be mounted over the truck chassis.
Cleaning Combination Trucks or some Concrete Pumping Trucks may prefer to install a Horizontal Transfer Case such as KMS.2400.
To identify a compatible Transfer Case, truck classification is very important. KMS Transfer Cases are usually divided into Light Duty, Medium Duty, and Heavy Duty Applications. Depending on the truck, the correct classification should be chosen. Maximum input torque should be calculated to select the correct Split Shaft PTO.
For some tall models, the lubrication system comes as standard with the Transfer Case, such as KMS.3000.
For some applications, a cooling system should also be built on the Transfer Case. Climate and maximum continuous working hours can affect cooling system needs.
Although it is optional, sensors can be adapted on Split Shaft PTOs. With Engage & Disengage sensor, Operator can recognize if the Transfercase PTO Output is activated or not, and can also check the revolution value through RPM counter sensor. Temperature Sensor, Oil Level Sensor, Vibration Sensor… There are many optional choise. Also Control Pannel Kit can be option to control all parameters in one single source.
Hot Shift feature gives the opportunity to engage/disengage PTO output with remote control, without the need to press the clutch or brake pedal inside the cabin. This feature is especially needed for Vacuum Cleaning Trucks, Sewer Cleaning Combination Trucks, Vacuum Excavators, and Water Jetting Trucks. Some models with Hot Shift feature: KMS.3005, KMS.2400, KMS.450.
The Transfer Cases are shipped as unoiled! Oil should be filled into the Transfercase by using the oil filling mechanism, before running the vehicle. The oil filling operation should be made on the ground. The required oil level is the top level shown on the indicator. The oil should be totally clean. You are required to use only the recommended oil (SAE 80 W 90 EP or equivalent oil). In case of using any oil other than the recommended oil, the vehicle is out of warranty coverage. Maintenance should be made on time. Maintenance should be made at ground level and when the vehicle is not running. In case the oil level is less than required, oil should be added. Make sure that old oil is totally drained and make sure that you are using recommended (correct) oil. In case of mixing old and new oil; This situation is going to cause damage to components of gearbox ( shaft, gear, bearing etc.)
First oil changing should be made following 250 hours after the Transfer case has started to run. Oil changing should be made when the oil is cold. Draining could be made by removing the drain plug. In order to accelerate the process, it is recommended to remove the filling plug also. Before restarting, the drain plug is required to be cleaned. Subsequent oil replacements should be made once in every 1000 working hours or once a year.
Check for oil leaks periodically. Check for any oil leaks in the area where the vehicle is operated and the surroundings. In case of detecting any oil leaks, prevent oil leaking, add oil if necessary, contact with us.
