Areas Of Usage

KMS Hydrostatic Gearboxes have been designed for many different classes of vehicles. Depending on truck specifications and customer requests, a suitable gearbox is suggested by our Technical Team. Regular Pump & Roll featured KMS Split Shaft Units transfer power to both the differential and the equipment during driving. This means the power is divided.

The aim of the Hydrostatic Drive is to transfer movement to the differential even when the Split Shaft Unit is in full operation together with the superstructure. On the other hand, the Hydrostatic Drive provides low vehicle speed while allowing superstructures to operate at high speed values.

The Hydrostatic Drive System is generally used on Sweeping Trucks, Salt Spreaders, Multi-Purpose Cleaning Trucks, Road Maintenance Trucks, Airport Firefighting Trucks, and Animal Feed Mixer Trucks (TMR Mixer Machines).

Hydrostatic Drive

The rotary motion is transferred from the engine to the main transmission, and from the main transmission to the hydrostatic gearbox through the drive shaft. The Hydrostatic Drive position is activated by a pneumatic system. The rotation coming from the drive shaft is increased in the hydrostatic gearbox and transferred to the hydrostatic pump. This process is designed to reach the required operating speed of the hydrostatic pump.

The hydrostatic pump then starts the oil flow to the hydromotor within the appropriate working range. The motion transferred from the hydrostatic pump to the hydromotor returns again to the split shaft unit. The rotary motion coming from the hydromotor is reduced to achieve higher torque capacity and is transferred to the rear axle. In this way, high torque is obtained at low speeds. The hydrostatic gearbox transfers the motion to the rear differential, and the drive is completed.

Hydrostatic Drive System Advantages

  • A noticeable improvement in the vehicle’s maneuverability,

  • The clutch is not used; therefore, instantaneous load on the gears during movement is avoided and gear damage is minimized,

  • Eliminates the need for an auxiliary motor,

  • Protects the environment by reducing exhaust emissions,

  • Reduces fuel consumption by using the vehicle’s engine optimally,

  • Prevents noise pollution by eliminating the auxiliary motor,

  • Improves weight distribution and increases the carried load,

  • The space previously used by the auxiliary motor can be used for storage or additional equipment,

  • Reduces maintenance time and costs,

  • More work can be done at a lower cost.

For these reasons, the Hydrostatic Drive provides more advantages than auxiliary motor systems.

Environmental Advantages

Hydrostatic gearboxes are designed to eliminate the need for a pump drive and an auxiliary motor to operate equipment in road sweeper vehicles. Eliminating the need for an auxiliary engine removes additional fuel consumption and carbon emissions. In addition, it prevents noise pollution caused by the auxiliary engine.

User Advantages

The expenses required for performing periodic inspections and repairing malfunctions of additional equipment, such as a pump drive coupled to an auxiliary motor, are eliminated. The load is evenly distributed on the vehicle chassis, reducing wear and fatigue and thus extending the vehicle’s service life. With a hydrostatic system, the truck can be designed with lower investment costs, and fuel savings can be doubled.
